Food Contact Requirements in Asia and Latin America

Thursday, September 27 | 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Learning Level: Competent | Topic: Hazard Communication

To maximize business opportunities in the largest markets of Asia Pacific and Latin America, companies must understand the similarities and subtle differences in the regulatory frameworks between the many countries in these regions. The session will provide attendees with an overview of the regulatory framework for food-contact materials in China, Japan, South Korea, India, and MERCOSUR member countries, as well as cover recent developments concerning food-contact requirements in these jurisdictions and is geared toward regulatory, scientific, and legal professionals throughout the food packaging supply chain whose businesses are engaged in or expanding into the Asia Pacific and Latin America food-contact markets.

Learning Objectives

  1. Recognize that food-contact requirements are jurisdiction-specific and ever evolving and understand the general safety principles that underlie all food-contact legislation.
  2. Identify the jurisdictions that have, and types of food-contact materials that are subject to, premarket clearance requirements, as well as what exemptions may apply that could allow you to market materials now.
  3. Understand the process to obtain a positive listing for an uncleared food-contact material in those jurisdictions that have premarket clearance requirements.
