Education at Product Stewardship 2019: What to Expect

The Product Stewardship Conference brings experienced professionals together from more than a dozen different industry sectors and throughout the value chain. With 44 education sessions and 3 half-day workshops, Product Stewardship 2019 will have something for everyone. No matter what industry you’re in, we’re sure you’ll benefit from our comprehensive education program, presented by leading industry experts.

Take, for example, our collaborative workshop on attracting, developing, and retaining a new generation of product stewards. Led by Nicole Scatena, Johnson & Johnson’s Product Stewardship Manager, you’ll be introduced to new strategies to build and sustain a strong product stewardship program talent pool. Along with your fellow product stewards, you’ll formulate methodologies, tactics, and identify potential resources as part of a talent management program. Scatena has over 12 years of experience across the areas of environmental science, human health toxicology, occupational health, and project management.

Another session worth checking out is Establishing an Effective Global Product Stewardship Surveillance and Advocacy System. With the complexity of global chemical regulation management, establishing processes and tools to track, advocate, and prepare for emerging and changing regulations is challenging. Presenter Patrice Szczygiel, ExxonMobil Chemical’s Product Stewardship and Regulatory Affairs Manager for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, will address the challenges associated with these four steps, empowering you to develop a strategy for becoming an engaged partner in the development of effective chemical management regulations.

If you’re interested in exploring credible ways to manage the complexities of single-use plastics, then On a Path to a Circular Economy of Plastic Packaging is a must-attend session. In a panel discussion, representatives of ACC/ICCA, global plastics manufacturers, product formulators, international waste firms, and communities working towards a plastic circular economy will help explain the challenges of defining the plastic footprint.

And if you’re looking into integrating a product a stewardship team into your business, Product Stewardship in a Global Company will be your guide. IBM’s Rebecca Morones will discuss the business value of a product stewardship team, the actual steps to achieve such integration, and how product stewards can bring value through material selection and development and regulations tracking. Morones has worked with the Product Stewardship Group within IBM for 8 years and is in charge of dealing with prohibited substances and IBM hardware products.

These are just a few examples of the varied education topics and expertise you’ll have at your disposal at Product Stewardship 2019. From navigating the risk of food packaging and evaluating dermal exposures, to examining China’s EHS compliance to downstream user impact, we’re confident you’ll leave with tangible takeaways, valuable connections, and actionable steps ready for implementation.
