Why You Should Attend Product Stewardship 2019

In 2014, the first Product Stewardship Conference was held in a single ballroom at a hotel adjacent to AIHce EXP, an annual conference that brings industrial hygienists together. This first conference was an introduction to the Product Stewardship Society and showcased how relevant it was in an industrial world facing environmental challenges surrounding product life cycles. Over the next few years, the event continued to expand and attract other professionals and product stewards and eventually outgrew the co-located space available. In 2017, the Product Stewardship Conference went solo, hosted on separate dates in a different location.

This progress is an indicator of the continuous effort the Product Stewardship Society has put into empowering product stewards and introducing others to the profession. Before the Society existed, there was no singular “home” for product stewardship professionals. Now they have a trusted source to turn to for professional development, news and information focused on their line of work, and, most importantly, community, by meeting every year to network and discuss the future challenges affecting their profession.

The Product Stewardship Conference provides the perfect opportunity for product stewards to gain exposure to new ideas, practical solutions, and best practices that can make them and their organizations more successful. Product Stewardship 2019, being held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCC) in Columbus, Ohio this September, offers a unique chance to discuss product sustainability challenges and opportunities with like-minded professionals.

To make it easier to attend and engage in these conversations, the conference schedule has been restructured to run from Tuesday to Thursday, with pre-conference workshops available on Monday. Unlike recent years, attendees will be able to attend during normal business days and reclaim their weekend.

“There’s nowhere else you’re going to meet and hear from professionals from such a wide variety of product uses and throughout the value chain.” Allan Fleeger, Product Stewardship Society past president

Because product stewardship is a constantly-evolving field, several education options ranging from managing chemical regulatory compliance to best practices in effective business communication will be offered. With the addition of a 4th concurrent session track, there will be even more content offered at any given time. Also, the conference’s main sessions will be offered in express, standard, and deep dive formats, giving attendees the chance to choose from different education formats that suit their learning preferences.

Knowing how important networking and sharing ideas are to product stewards, The Exchange will be returning with an expanded space offering the perfect setting to collaborate with your fellow professionals and industry partners. New and returning partners will be there to showcase innovative products and services and help our attendees find the right solutions to their work challenges.

Since its inception, the Product Stewardship Conference has attracted professionals from mainstays such as chemical companies to up-and-coming breakouts like biotechnology. As noted by Mark Erickson, a product stewardship professional and 2018 attendee, the conference is “a great opportunity to network and benchmark with other product stewards from various industries and to learn from each other's real-world experiences.” Simply put, if you’re a product steward or a professional interested in the field, Product Stewardship 2019 is the place to be.

Attendees can maximize their investment by being a premium member of the Product Stewardship Society. Along with saving $100 on registration, premium members get unlimited access to the Stewardship On Demand learning library, which contains over 130 recorded presentations from previous conferences (2019 sessions will be added after this year’s event). Additionally, attendees can take advantage of early bird savings by registering before July 8 and booking within the official hotel room block.

We look forward to seeing you at Product Stewardship 2019!
