Education Sessions at PSX 2021: What to Expect

When organizing a conference like PSX, one of the main challenges is how to provide education content that not only meets the needs of conference attendees but also keeps them ahead of the game.

But how do you find out what members and conference attendees want and need, short of a crystal ball? By asking, of course!

Early this year, the Product Stewardship Society conducted a study to understand and track the evolving needs of its members, prospective members, and PSX attendees.

This survey, which included more than 300 product stewardship professionals, gave us insightful information on what product stewards are looking for when it comes to continuing their education opportunities.

What we found out:

  • 41% of respondents are interested in education courses that will improve their management, sales, and marketing skills.
  • More than 50% of respondents are interested in pursuing education/training in global chemical regulations, and regulations and compliance.
  • Product risk assessment and product stewardship program development continue to be top priorities.
  • Keeping up with banned/restricted substances and adequate staffing are both consistent challenges.

This insightful data provided a roadmap for the Conference Program Committee as proposals were evaluated for education sessions. That’s why the PSX 2021 education program is rich with content that matters to you most. Here’s just a sample of what you can expect:

Successful PS Project Execution in Business Environments will give participants the effective project and relationship management skills necessary to successfully pitch, execute, and maintain PS projects and empower and elevate PS projects from hindrances to business essentials.

Navigating the Legal Landscape of Green Marketing will enable participants to navigate the most important challenges faced by product stewards with respect to product marketing, identify green marketing claims and take the necessary steps to substantiate these claims, and overcome the challenges of effectively managing FTC regulatory compliance.

Understanding EPA's Significant New Use Rule for LCPFACs will provide attendees with a better understanding of how EPA regulates hazardous chemicals in articles using SNURs, the recently finalized SNUR applying to LCPFACs, and how to identify industries and products that may be affected and evaluate whether this SNUR applies to articles imported by their companies and take actions to comply with it.

Implications of UK REACH on US-Based Manufacturers and Suppliers explores and outlines the U.K.'s new legislation and various considerations for chemical companies doing business in the U.K.

The survey also showed that 33% of Society members plan to pursue the Certified Professional Product Steward (CPPS) credential, offered by BGC, in the near future. That’s why the sessions offered this year align with the four CPPS domains.
